Nice! Demi Lovato’s sophomore album, Here We Go Again, debuts at #1 this week! Her previous record, Don’t Forget, debuted at #2 last year. She Tweeted the news to fans:

Mariah’s Memoir’s of an Imperfect Angel has been officially pushed back. Although her website still shows a countdown for August 25th, she cleared things up on BET’s 106 and Park this past week. She stated that she is in the studio finishing the album up and was hoping for the August release, but stated due to “fine tuning,” it would much more likely be a September release.
Sad day! It will be worth it though because the album will be amazing!!

I’ve been writing songs with different people — Patty Griffin, John Brion — people that I really love and I’ve been friends with for a long time. These are great collaborators, I’ll probably begin recording in November or December next year. My record is coming out next year; it’s going to be half stuff I’ve done over the year. For example, “Eat Me Out,” which I did in my show last year, is a big gospel salute to cunnilingus, which is so ridiculous. I guess it’s comedy, I don’t know. My hero is Weird Al Yankovic. I’m following in his impressively musical footsteps.

That’s what I love about touring. The gay fans scream out; the conservative fans scream out. We see what we have in common rather than what we don’t. It’s OK to disagree as long as we don’t limit the rights of others. That’s how I try and live my life. I have friends who I don’t agree with, but I’m still great friends with them. My shows are great little experiments: my redneck friends must be tolerant of my gay friends and my gay friends must be tolerant of my redneck friends. It’s perfect.”

Jordin Sparks Drops Her Latest Effort, Battlefield
Tuesday, July 21: American Idol-winnerJordin Sparks, whose 2008 eponymous debut album earned her a Grammy nod and reached Platinum-selling status, drops her second effort, Battlefield, today. Her sophomore album finds Sparks trending toward R&B and dance beats, while still offering up some serious power ballads (“Was I The Only One” and “The Cure”) that showcase her tremendous vocal prowess. The album delivers at least a few hit-worthy tracks that will keep Sparks in serious rotation on the dance floor this summer. Here’s “Battlefield,” the album’s title track and first single, which is already in heavy radio rotation. — Joseph Hassan
As testimony got under way on Monday in the pretrial hearing for Brandon McInerney , the Ventura County teen accused of murdering openly gay classmate Lawrence King (above pic) last year, his defense attorney argued that he was provoked by same-sex romantic overtures, reports the Los Angeles Times.
Defense attorney Scott Wippert reportedly questioned a witness from the Oxnard police department sharply at one point, asking, “Did you inquire if Larry King was making sexual advances toward McInerney … you do realize he’s charged with first-degree murder? That he was provoked?”
McInerney, now 15, allegedly shot King, who was 15, at E.O. Green Junior High on February 12, 2008. Witnesses at the hearing in Ventura County superior court testified that McInerney was annoyed by romantic overtures from King, and that the accused bragged about having access to guns at home, the Los Angeles Times reported.
The hearing, expected to resume on Tuesday, will determine whether the case should go to trial.

HERE WE GO AGAIN
While some Disney artists rely heavily on Auto-Tune and layers of effects, Demi Lovato sounds best with stripped-down production. One example is “Catch Me,” a perfect acoustic ballad found halfway through the 16-year-old singer’s second album, “Here We Go Again.” Lovato sings with more yearning than Jewel and better phrasing to boot. The listener can even hear Lovato put a grin into her voice when singing the line, “You’ve got me smiling in my sleep.” “Every Time You Lie” swings like Maroon 5’s brand of radio soul, while “World of Chances” could easily be heard from a stage at Lilith Fair. Along with some quiet surprises, there are also potential hits, including the first single/title track, where Lovato almost sounds like Kelly Clarkson’s kid sister. Quiet or loud, rock or folk, Lovato is a natural talent who could really take flight after outgrowing Disney.
